Upcoming Events - January 2021

We kicked off 2021 with our first meeting of the year on January 12th. Here is the Facebook Live video in case you missed it. Our goal for the year is to offer members two ways to participate in the monthly meeting: on-line and in person (when possible). March will likely be our next in person meeting opportunity due to the weather being so unpredictable. So, what do we have coming up at CVTA?

On Saturday, January 30th at 10AM we will have our first trail work day at Norris. This is an exciting opportunity for us. Chuck Morris and Brian Poston have been building some new trails at Norris over the last few years largely on their own with the help of a small crew. This new trail is well on its way to completion and with our help they are hoping to have it finished. If you have never been to a trail work day, this is a perfect first-time opportunity for you and if you're a seasoned trail builder, you will be extra helpful showing new folks how it's done. There is a lot of benching to finish up as there are some off-camber sections needing attention. CVTA will provide all the tools you need, just come dressed for the weather, ready to walk a couple of miles, bring some gloves, hydration and a can do attitude. Lunch will be provided at 1PM. We will meet at the intersection of Highpoint Road and Upper Clear Creek Road just past the Norris Shooting Range. If you have any questions, please reach out via our Facebook page.

Next month we should have a couple of trail work opportunities at Windrock Bike Park in Oliver Springs, Aspire Park in Clinton and possibly at Haw Ridge and/or the Dirt Lab. Mat Stanke has been posting pop-up work days at the Dirt Lab, so keep your eyes peeled or reach out to him directly to get involved. We do need some equipment lent for some upcoming projects, like a mini-excavator, so holler at us if you have access and we'll let you know what we need.

Have you joined us for a members-only ride at Aspire Park? If you haven't, you should and if you haven't joined CVTA through IMBA you should so you can join us for the rides. Aspire Park will be opening to the public in 2022 but needs tires on their awesome trails in the meantime but you can only ride there by invitation. Each month we host a ride there and the invite goes out via the IMBA member portal. So join and join in on the fun! Our most recent ride was January 17th and we had over 20 riders out on a chilly day for about 9 mile ride. There was a new trail for us to check out that was a lot of fun.

There is still some CVTA merchandise/swag remaining from our Holiday 2020 pre-order. Our President, Lisa Mueller, can hook you up if you're interested in baseball jerseys, hoodies, stickers, beanies, buffs, hats and more. She can be reached at 865-406-3870 or lisa@almphoto.com. Members receive 20% off all purchases. All money goes back to the club for trails!

Windrock Bike Park needs you! The Tennessee National Bike Festival is taking place March 10 through 14, 2021 and will offer racing across an array of two-wheel disciplines including downhill, freestyle and enduro mountain biking. There are categories for youth, amateur and professional riders. This event is always a lot of fun and they are in need of volunteers for course marshaling. The shifts will be about 8 hours but you are welcome to sign up with a friend. Volunteers (or only one if sharing a marshal station with a friend) receive a free pass to the Windrock Bike Park to use in the future. This is an awesome perk if you have never ridden there and an even more awesome perk if you have. Registration is easy and we'd love to see you there. Lisa Mueller is your volunteer point of contact for this event at 865-406-3870 or lisa@almphoto.com.

The February monthly meeting is on the 9th and will be via Facebook Live so keep your calendar open and your couch ready for another interesting evening of "what will Buttons get into tonight". But seriously, we will have an update on the Dirt Lab, work days, fundraising projects and anything else going on with CVTA.

See you all Saturday at Norris! And if you can't make it there, be sure to join us for the meeting. Tell your friends!
